Cinema Signs & Readographs
A Readograph is essentially a classic cinema marquee sign backlit sign, letter-changeable and often framed in a row of lights. It’s a nostalgic yet still practical element in both heritage theatres and contemporary cinemas.
A traditional readograph or traditional cinema (or theatre) marquee sign features interchangeable letters and numbers on a backlit panel paired with a glamorous border of lights or bulbs. Think of it as a giant, form-fitting message board in neon or LED lighting, used to display film titles, showtimes, or quotes up front. Readographs are deeply associated with mid-century cinema and art-deco aesthetics, evoking the glamour and excitement of the Golden Age of movies.
Additionally, restoration projects sometimes include refurbishment or replacement of Readograph signs to match the original mid-century aesthetic or a heritage cinema or theatre particulatly in London and the city's theatre district.
