Wayfinding at Borough Yards, London SE1
Borough Yards is a vibrant new London destination to shop, eat, work and play, right next door to the famous culinary crucible, Borough Market. Based in and around a series of restored and reconceived railway arches, Borough Yards is a new chapter for Southwark and the wider Borough Market area.

Goodwin & Goodwin were tasked with painting all the large scale wall murals and the wayfinding signage for this new SE1 site. The largest mural 'SOAP' is four storeys high! All the murals were painted by hand with a distress/aged look to take the appearance of 'ghost signs'. A ghost sign is an old hand-painted advertising sign that has been preserved on a building for an extended period of time. Another large scale mural was the ‘Borough Yards’ where individual bricks were hand painted to create this amazing typographic effect. The murals were completed at height by the team using cherry pickers. The designs introduced many fun elements particular to note are the ‘faces’ on the wall. As well as the ‘bike bell wall’ to indicate the public bike storage, all working bicycle bells! Oh and a couple of secret hidden pranks include a (real) human tooth and antique cup embedded into the wall pretending to a be part of a secret history left embedded in an old wall - worth hunting to find it!
